France: Two new Ministers in charge of Education and Higher Education & Research

Élisabeth Borne is appointed Minister for Education, Higher Education and Research, in François Bayrou's government, the French presidency announces on 23/12/2024. Philippe Baptiste is appointed Minister for Higher Education and Research under Élisabeth Borne.

Both succeed Anne Genetet, Minister for Education, and Patrick Hetzel, Minister for Higher Education and Research, who were appointed on 21/09/2024.

The new government is appointed following a motion of no confidence voted by the National Assembly on 04/12/2024, which saw then-Prime Minister Michel Barnier quit. French President Emmanuel Macron named François Bayrou the new Prime Minister.

This is the fourth Prime Minister for Emmanuel Macron since his reelection in 2022. Following the European elections on 06/06/2024, which saw the far-right party Rassemblement National take the lead with 31.37%, he triggered a snap election.
