EU highlights in 2024: Reports, new European Commission, Horizon Europe associations, budget...

2024 was a particularly eventful year in the European Union: Enrico Letta's reports on the Single Market, Mario Draghi's on competitiveness and Manuel Heitor's and Christian Ehler's on Horizon Europe and its successor, triggered numerous reactions from both political and academic decision-makers; the European elections led to the establishment of a new college of 27 commissioners, thus changing the governance of the EU...

Since its creation in May 2024, News Tank Academic has kept abreast of these issues, which are fundamental to the future of European R&I and higher education, and has compiled them in this selection.

2024 began with the UK's association with Horizon Europe on 01/01 and ended with the conclusion of negotiations for Switzerland's association on 20/12, as well as the launch of discussions with Japan, Egypt and Singapore. The year was also marked by the completion of negotiations with South Korea, whose researchers are able to start participating since 01/01/2025, and by the signing of the agreement with Canada.
