Meeting between The Guild and VP Roxanna Minzatu: "The main topic was the Union of Skills"

"With Roxanna Minzatu, the main topic was the Union of Skills, because she has to present a new strategy within her first 100 days. We were really pleased that she invited the higher education sector to be part of this. The fundamental question for us was how universities can best be part of that agenda and how we contribute to that Union of Skills with the distinctive qualities that we have", states Jan Palmowski, Secretary General of The Guild, in an interview with News Tank on 17/01/2025.

Roxana Minzatu, Executive Vice-president for Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs, and Preparedness at the European Commission, received representatives from The Guild at the beginning of January.

Jan Palmowski highlights the need for this strategy to prioritise not only skills but also competencies:

"It’s important to ensure we address competencies to learn throughout your life and that you know how to learn, that you recognise the need to learn, and also that you are able to be a critical member of society, given the way that society will change over the course of a lifetime".
