"There is a clear call to make mobility a norm. However, several challenges persist - the lack of funding, housing issues, recognition of mobility periods, embedding mobility into curricula, etc.", states The Guild in a position paper dedicated to the forthcoming Erasmus+ programme, and more specifically to student grants, published on 23/01/2024.

The Guild suggests five recommendations "to make the grant system fairer, simpler and more sustainable, to the benefit of students and the sector as a whole".

"A prerequisite for this is an ambitious budget for the 2028-2034 period echoed in the European Parliament’s call for tripling the Erasmus+ budget and Mario Draghi’s report, which advocates for a fivefold increase to reach all young people.

Equally important, the funding levels in 2028 should not be lower than those of the final year of the current programme to ensure continuity in the transition period".

Then, the association of 22 universities is calling for:
