European Commission: After the Draghi and Letta reports, a Compass to "close the innovation gap"

"The Competitiveness Compass we agreed on today in the College is basically the translation of the Draghi report with inputs of the Letta report into a communication of the Commission. It also describes where we are going to go in the years to come", declares Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, on 29/01/2025.

She presents the Competitiveness Compass, which "maps out the path for Europe to become the place where tomorrow's clean technologies, services and products are invented, manufactured and brought to market, while at the same time being the first continent to become climate neutral", according to the Commission.

The plan is based on three pillars:

• closing the innovation gap,
• establishing a common roadmap for decarbonisation and competitiveness,
• reducing our dependency and strengthening our resilience and economic security.
