ERC 2023: Final results for Advanced, Consolidator, Starting grants

The ERC publishes the list of eligible researchers in reserve obtaining a grant for the 2023 calls for Starting, Consolidator and Advanced grants, after funding becomes available on 31/01/2025.

In total, the 2023 calls deliver grants to:

• 255 laureates for the ERC Advanced, which is aimed at "confirmed, first-rate researchers who already have significant achievements to their credit";
• 307 for the Consolidator ERC, aimed at researchers who obtained their doctorate between 7 and 12 years ago;
• 400 for the Starting programme, which provides funding opportunities for scientists at the start of their careers.

Grants average €1.5M for ERC Starting, up to €2M (with a possible additional €1M) for ERC Consolidator, and up to €2.5M for ERC Advanced, all over five years.

Germany still has the highest number of laureates but is always past the tenth rank in terms of winners per million inhabitants. The Netherlands has the best ranking on this criterion, with 6,9 winners per million inhabitants.
