Leru: Michael Schaepman, President of the University of Zurich, elected member of the Board

Michael Schaepman, President of the University of Zurich (Switzerland), is elected by the Leru rectors as a new member of the Board of Directors on 07/02/2025. His term begins on 01/03.

He succeeds Henrik Wegener, rector of the University of Copenhagen, whose term ends on 28/02/2025.

Michael Schaepman studied geography, experimental physics, and informatics at the University of Zurich, where he earned his doctorate. He has worked at the University of Arizona (USA) and Wageningen University (The Netherlands).

Since 2009, he has been a professor of remote sensing at the University of Zurich. He served as Vice-Dean (2014) and Dean (2016) of the Faculty of Science and was a member of the Executive Board (2017-2020). Since 01/09/2020, he is the President of the University of Zurich.

Together with Linda Doyle of Trinity College Dublin (Chair), Peter Mathieson of the University of Edinburgh, Sari Lindblom of the University of Helsinki and Peter-Paul Verbeek of the University of Amsterdam, they oversee Leru's activities and establish its policies and strategies for the future.
