Science and technology in Europe: 83% of people having positive perception (Commission survey)

83% of citizens positively perceive the influence of science and technology, with 67% agreeing that it will enhance an easier, healthier and more comfortable lifestyle, according to the Eurobarometer survey on ‘European citizens' knowledge and attitudes towards science and technology', published by the European Commission on 03/02/2025.

The report also reveals that "most Europeans think science and technology should be inclusive but tend to believe that currently only certain groups of the population benefit." This derives from the lack of trust and equity in science, as 64% believe science helps the environment but mostly benefits big companies.

"The overall positive attitude towards science and technology is reassuring, as this is essential for achieving our competitiveness goals. At the same time, we need to respond to citizens' expectations for a more equitable distribution of the benefits of science and technology.
