Switzerland: Higher education and research organisations calling to forego massive savings in ERI

"Austerity measures in education, research and innovation are exacerbating the shortage of skilled workers and damaging the Swiss economy", declares Swissuniversities, academies, ETH Board, SNSF and Innosuisse in a joint statement published on 11/02/2025. They react to the proposed 2027 relief package for the federal budget, which plans to cut more than CHF 460 M per year (€487 M) in education, research and innovation (ERI).

"The planned reduction in R&I funding will also harm the Swiss economy: one franc saved by the federal government means an economic loss of up to five francs. The actors in the ERI sector are calling on the Federal Council to forego these massive savings."

The Federal Council opened the consultation on the 2027 relief package for the federal budget on 29/01/2025 and its propositions are "badly affecting" the ERI sector.
