LMU Munich (Germany): Matthias Tschöp elected as the new President

Matthias Tschöp will take his new position as President of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) on 01/10/2025 for six years following the election on 20/02/2025, the German university announces on the same day.

He currently serves as the CEO and Scientific Director of Helmholtz Zentrum München and chairs the Department of Metabolic Diseases at the Technical University of Munich.

He comments on his new position: "I am delighted with the University Council’s decision. As President of LMU, I will work with all my colleagues and invest all my energy to ensure a successful future for this unique, world-class university and all its students."

“During my remaining term in office, I will involve Matthias Tschöp in all decisions and processes to ensure a smooth transition", says Bernd Huber, who has held the presidency for the past 23 years.
