« As science and technology have increasingly become a geopolitical currency, science diplomacy is emerging as a key element in leveraging our power and partnerships for a global Europe”, says a group of 130 experts in a report titled ‘A European Framework for Science Diplomacy” published by the European Commission on 13/02/2025.

The objective of the report is to demonstrate the need for science diplomacy action at the European level and the ways to implement it. In 2021, the Council Conclusions titled ‘Global Approach to R&I’ called for a European Science Diplomacy Agenda. In 2023, EU Research Ministers further urged the development of an ambitious European Framework for Science Diplomacy.

We need to send a clear message to our partners and competitors that our policy is driven by research and innovation, by evidence rather than unverifiable beliefs, let alone fake information, and that Europe…
