"The lack of integration of education and R&I systems within the Single Market is perhaps the worst among all the different problems we have. [...] It is clear that to react to what is happening at the world level, there’s only one recipe: to stay together, to integrate our Single Market, and to make it possible for all our talents to become the true flagship of our future", says Enrico Letta, author of a report on the Single Market published on 17/04/2024, on 27/02/2025.

The former Italian Prime Minister is now Dean of the IE School and Chairman of the Institut Jacques Delors. He is speaking at an event organised by the European Commission in Brussels entitled 'Shaping the future: European universities alliances for a competitive Europe'.

According to him, "the European alliances, with a great number of universities everywhere in Europe, need to have more funding and more institutional support. The need to link innovation, knowledge, and research to progress, development, and the future is absolutely necessary".
