"The University College Cork (UCC) was built during the Great Famine in the 19th century, and maybe now we need the voices of universities to be heard again. Our responsibility is to decipher fact from fake", declares John O'Halloran, the President of UCC, on 27/02/2025 at the opening of the EUA Learning & Teaching Forum, taking place on 27 and 28/02 in Cork (Ireland).

He highlights the role of universities worldwide for societies: "Universities are able to face the social and economic challenges for students, even through political crises and wars or through changes like AI. These issues affect us all, no matter where you’re coming from, and we will have to learn from each other to face them efficiently."

As the EUA Forum on Teaching and Learning aims to achieve a "parity of esteem" between research and teaching, Paul McSweeney, Vice-President for Learning and Teaching at UCC, reports on the work done at his university on the matter: "UCC was the first university in Ireland to appoint a VP for Learning and Teaching.
