55 of the top 200 universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025 are headed by women, says THE in an analysis published on 05/03/2025, to coincide with International Women's Rights Day on 08/03.

This represents five more women than in 2024 and 27 more than in 2015, when THE began producing this analysis (+82%).

The United States has the highest number of female leaders in THE's top 200 universities, with 16, ahead of the United Kingdom (8), Germany and the Netherlands (7 each).

Half of the eight Ivy League institutions in the United States are headed by women: Columbia University, Dartmouth College, Yale University and Brown University.

THE adds that "of the top 200 universities, 2.5% (or 10% of female-led institutions) are led by women of colour".
