Jedi calling for strategic action in European defence with R&D

"More money is critical, but this will not protect Europeans if we are not more realistic, strategic in our joint goals, massively simplify and act boldly", declares the Joint European Disruptive Initiative (Jedi), calling for an urgent and strategic overhaul of European defence, in a briefing titled "Make European Defense Great - Memo for the Leaders", on 06/03/2025.

The briefing outlines 32 points across four key priorities, among which focus on attracting talent and innovation in R&D, fostering radical innovation, and adapting to a war economy.

The briefing highlights that the following four key priorities must be met:
• "To take the right decisions, Europeans need to stop being delusional about the current situation;
• 99% of discussions are about the percentage of defence spending. Before putting in more resources, we can gain massively by radically reducing complexity and changing processes;
• Make courageous decisions. Make radical changes in our organisations, procurement, speed, and systems;
• Shape the future & create strategic advantage (technology leapfrog)."
