Stand Up for Science: Protests around the world against budget cuts and massive layoffs in the US

Researchers, federal workers, and their supporters gathered in Stand Up for Science protests on 07/03/2025 to oppose the Trump administration's budget cuts to research funding and widespread layoffs across science-funding agencies. According to Reuters, there were 30 events in the US and over 150 worldwide. The Washington D.C. protest rally "a couple thousand people," according to the AP.

"Our goal at Stand Up for Science is to host a series of nationwide nerd parties that empower people to take continued steps to advocate for science as a tool for social progress", say the organisers.

"We rally to defend science as a public good and pillar of social, political, and economic progress. We call on policymakers, institutions, and the scientific community to uphold the integrity of science, protect its accessibility, and ensure its benefits serve all people."
