"Backing innovators by tearing down unnecessary barriers that hold back growth will ensure we reap the rewards of rapidly advancing technology over the next decade and drive forward our Plan or Change", declares Peter Kyle, Science and Technology Secretary, on 10/03/2025, speaking at the TechUK Conference 2025.

TechUK is a trade association that brings together people, companies, and organisations to discuss the outcomes of what digital technology can achieve. It has over 1,000 members (the majority of which are SMEs) across the UK.

"Why has government after government found it so difficult to design or deliver a coherent plan for our economy? I think part of the answer is a failure to imagine what a better future for our country could look like", says Peter Kyle.

According to him, Mario Draghi’s recent report on European competitiveness showed that the vast productivity gap between the EU and the US is almost entirely down to the tech sector's growth, and the UK is in a similar situation.
