Adoption of a declaration on climate change and sustainability by 39 Coimbra Group universities

39 universities across Europe adopts the Durham Declaration on the collaboration of Coimbra Group Universities on Climate Change and Sustainability to "tackle climate change and embed sustainability in all areas of academic life" on 26/03/2025, announces The Coimbra Group the same day.

Coimbra Group Universities undertake to lead efforts in sustainability, climate action, and biodiversity protection through research, education, and policy engagement. They emphasise the urgency of addressing climate change, fostering innovation, and preparing students for global challenges.

They will also collaborate with various sectors to enhance societal resilience and sustainability. They commit to transforming campuses for a net-zero future while strengthening joint efforts for greater impact.

The 39 universities set out initiatives and actions on which they can work together and share best practices, like sharing the benefits and impacts of research, promoting climate education and strengthening advocacy for higher levels of research funding.
