ExclusiveEkaterina Zaharieva and EU Ministers’ initiative for scientific freedom and talent attraction

Ekaterina Zaharieva, European Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation, will hold a meeting with the research Ministers of the member states, in response to a request made by 13 research and innovation Ministers in a letter, News Tank learns on 27/03/2025.

The letter, sent on 21/03/2025 at the initiative of the French Minister, Philippe Baptiste, addresses the current threat to the freedom of scientific research due to political, ideological, and discriminatory pressures:

"Research projects are currently being threatened in many scientific fields such as climate change, infectious diseases, history or sociology, for political, ideological and discriminatory reasons. These tendencies are a threat not only for the future of scientific research and the scientific community, but also for our common capacity to understand our changing world and provide science-based solutions for the challenges of our time".
