A European Ocean Pact investing in R&I to be presented at United Nations Ocean Conference in June

A European Ocean Pact "enabling member states to reaffirm that the ocean is one of their strategic and competitive assets" will be presented at the third United Nations Ocean Conference (Unoc) in Nice (France), announces French President Emmanuel Macron on 31/03/2025, at the conclusion of the international "SOS Ocean" event organised by the Oceano Azul Foundation, a philanthropic organisation based in Portugal which funds education, conservation, and supports ocean science and research.

The event is a follow-up to the One Ocean Summit in Brest (France) in 2022 and just a few months before Unoc, which will be held in Nice from 09 to 13/06/2025.

"This Blue Pact must invest in the protection of our oceans, in sustainable fuels in Europe, create industries that will gradually replace fossil fuels, invest in the electrification of ports, and research and innovation to give our scientific community more resources to learn more about our oceans".

The French President also presents "defence of science" as one of the objectives of the Unoc:
