UK: £13.9 Bn of R&D funding to "boost innovation, jobs and growth" for 2025-2026

The UK will dedicate £13.9 Bn (€16.25 Bn) of R&D funding to "boost innovation, jobs and growth, improve lives and drive the Plan for Change", announces the British government on 04/04/2025, describing the 2025 to 2026 budget.

According to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the UK’s public research funder will receive £8.8 Bn (€ 10.29 Bn) over the next year.

"This allocation safeguards the capability of the UK’s world-class research and innovation ecosystem and enables investment to support the government’s five missions", states Ottoline Leyser, CEO of UKRI.

"This funding will drive forward research that could transform lives and help make our NHS fit for the future", says the UK government.

According to the Department, public investment in R&D allows for economic growth through new jobs and commercial opportunities, and leverages private investment in the long run.

Peter Kyle, Science and Technology Secretary, declares: "Our £13.9 Bn investment in R&D is ultimately an investment in the future of the UK."
