Germany: Dorothee Bär Minister for Research; Karin Prien Minister for Education

The union of German conservative parties CDU and CSU appoints Dorothee Bär Federal Minister for Research, Technology and Space, and Karin Prien Federal Minister for Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, to form a government coalition with the SPD (Social Democrats), on 28/04/2025.

A member of the CSU, of which she has been Vice-Chairwoman since 2017, Dorothee Bär is a graduate of the Munich School of Political Science and the Free University of Berlin. She has been a Member of Parliament since 2002. Between March 2018 and December 2021, she was Minister of State for Digital Affairs in the Chancellery.

Karin Prien is a member of the CDU and trained as a lawyer. She has been Minister of Education in Schleswig-Holstein (a state in northern Germany) since June 2017. She was President of the Standing Conference of Länder Education Ministers in 2022.
