European Commission proposes €500 million for Choose Europe programme to attract world's top researchers

"Science is an investment, and we need to offer the right incentives. This is why I can announce that we will put forward a new €500 million package as part of the 'Choose Europe' initiative for 2025-2027 to make Europe a magnet for researchers", declares Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, during the "Choose Europe for Science" event organised by the French President Emmanuel Macron at the Sorbonne (Paris) on 05/05/2025.

As part of the ERC, in addition to doubling the grants for principal investigators moving to the EU, she announces that the Commission "aims to create a seven-year 'super-grant' to offer a longer-term perspective to the very best researchers".

The President of the European Commission also mentions the "Choose Europe" pilot project of the Marie Curie Actions, planned for 2025 and endowed with €22.5 M: "Early-career scientists who choose Europe will benefit from higher allowances and longer contracts. We will expand this support over the next two years, with targeted incentives in frontier fields, like AI."
