Danish National Research Foundation: More grants funding and 13 new centres of excellence in 2024

The Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF) delivered 59 grants in 2024, for a total of DDK 458.2 M (€61.40 M), up from DDK 430.8 M in 2023, announces the annual report of the DNRF, published on 02/05/2025.

The total return on investment for the year is DDK 505 M, down from DDK 550.1 M in 2023. The administrative costs stay the same, while the net capital at year-end went up from DDK 4,671.1 M in 2023 to DDK 4,790.1 M in 2024.

The DNRF also announces the creation of 13 new centres of excellence in 2024, with a funding of DKK 730 M over six years: "The centres cover the entire academic spectrum and focus on research questions ranging from migraine and fertility to economics and Arctic research to quantum science and green materials".

"The DNRF expects these centres to build highly ambitious and creative environments that churn out research, talent, and innovation at the forefront, for up to ten years and beyond."

The foundation reports changes in leadership in 2024: Dorthe Dahl-Jensen replaced Jens Kehlet Nørskov as chair, while Niels Mejlgaard replaced Søren-Peter Olsen as CEO…
