Adoption of documents on European degree by EU Ministers after "difficult negotiations"(A.Szeptycki)

"The Draft Council Resolution shows our vision on the way forward in higher education. At its very core, there is a roadmap going all the way to 2029, outlining the process with three phases. It will guide us in the implementation of the joint European degree label and will pave the way for a joint European degree", says Andrzej Szeptycki, Polish Deputy Minister for Science and Higher Education, on 12/05/2025.

"It was a difficult process of negotiations", he says. During the Council for Education in Brussels, the European ministers responsible for higher education adopt two documents:

• the recommendation on a European quality assurance and recognition system, which establishes "the criteria based on which the joint European degree label will be awarded" ;

• and the resolution on a joint European degree label and the next steps towards a possible joint European degree describing a "a step-by-step approach guided by a common vision, making sure that we preserve the autonomy of our education institutions, our diverse educational traditions, but also showing that we aim high and can…
