Harvard University suing the administration after ban from international programme certification

"Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem ordered DHS to terminate Harvard University’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification. This means Harvard can no longer enrol foreign students, and existing foreign students must transfer or lose their legal status", states the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on 22/05/2025.

Harvard University responds with a new lawsuit against the Trump administration, which says the move violates the university's First Amendment and due process rights, among others.

According to the DHS, "Harvard is being held accountable for collaboration with the CCP (Communist Party of China), fostering violence, antisemitism, and pro-terrorist conduct from students on its campus".

The Trump administration indicates that Harvard’s leadership has created "an unsafe campus environment by permitting anti-American, pro-terrorist agitators to harass and physically assault individuals", and considers these agitators to be foreign students.

"It is a privilege, not a right, for universities to enrol foreign students and benefit from their higher tuition…
