The European Research Council announces changes to the submission of applications, the evaluation of proposals, the funding, the resubmission and the eligibility of applicants to the 2026 and 2027 work programmes on 02/06/2025.

The Commission recently announced that researchers based outside Europe can request up to €2 M in additional funding to facilitate the relocation of their laboratory or team to the EU or a country associated with Horizon Europe. "As of 2026, the additional funding may also be used for personnel costs, and, as before, applicants are requested to define and justify the need for additional funding in their proposal. The decision to award the requested funding rests with the evaluation panel", explains the Council.

It adds that "the ERC Scientific Council is working on a new instrument to offer ambitious researchers substantial funding for up to seven years, as part of the Choose Europe for Science initiative. The new funding instrument will be included in an amended version of the ERC Work Programme 2026 that is expected to be adopted by the end of 2025".
