"There is paralysis happening in American academic systems caused by uncertainty. And that paralysis is stealing the brain time we should be spending thinking about subatomic particles, or gene editing, or the history of horses in the heartland of America... Instead, we’re spending that time thinking about Donald Trump, which is his superpower. We cannot let that be", states Sudip Parikh, Chief Executive Officer of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), on 23/05/2025.

He speaks during the event "Unlocking Innovation: Research-Intensive Universities as Drivers of Competitiveness and Societal Impact" organised by Leru, The Guild, KU Leuven and Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium).

"While there’s been widespread talk of massive cuts to science funding, those have not yet been done. People often cite the idea that over half of the National Science Foundation’s budget is at risk—that has not happened. And frankly, having testified before Congress, it’s not going to happen. Please don’t assume that’s a done deal".
