Joint Research Centre (JRC): Bernard Magenhann appointed Director-General

The European Commission appoints Bernard Magenhann as the new Director-General of its Joint Research Centre on 17/06/2025. The appointment will take effect on 01/07/2025.

Bernard Magenhann is French and has over 20 years of experience in the European Commission. Since 2020, he has been Deputy Director-General and, since 2024, Acting Director-General of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC). He previously held various management positions in the Human Resources, IT and Internal Audit Directorates-General. He holds a Diplôme d'Expertise Comptable (chartered accountancy diploma), which he obtained in 1992.

Bernard Magenhann "brings a strong blend of strategic leadership, scientific coordination, and operational excellence across a wide range of policy areas. His expertise covers digital transformation, nuclear research, decommissioning, data governance, audit, and resource management - all areas essential to ensuring that the JRC delivers high-impact, evidence-based support for EU policymaking.
