Skills in green and digital transitions: "Vocational education should become the star" (R. Minzatu)

"The Union of Skills can empower the Clean Industrial Deal; the key investment we need, beyond the capital and money, is in people. The labour shortages we are facing in many sectors, private and public, are in industries and sectors related to our economic competitiveness and decarbonisation. We are in a special moment in which vocational education and training (VET) should become the star", declares Roxana Mînzatu, Vice President of the European Commission for Social Rights and Skills, on 30/06/2025.

She is speaking at the European Alliance for Apprenticeships (Eafa) annual High-Level Event, held in Brussels (Belgium) from 30/06 to 01/07 under the theme “Apprenticeships for the Union of Skills and the Clean Industrial Deal”. The event brings together EU institutions, social partners, education providers, and regional actors to advance the role of VET in Europe’s green and digital transitions.

The Vice President highlights that while Europe focuses on universities or basics, "we must acknowledge that vocational training has not been the focus of our work at the European level"…
