"Mainland China is arguably now the world’s research powerhouse, publishing 75% more papers indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection than the United States in 2024", indicates Clarivate, based on its annual G20 research and innovation scorecard, released on 10/07/2025.

The scorecard is compiled by expert analysts and data scientists at the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) and examines the research and innovation capabilities of each G20 member.

This year, for the first time, the scorecard includes data from the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), a multidisciplinary journal edition in the Web of Science Core Collection, expanding the scope and depth of global research insights.

The G20 scorecard provides a view of the global research and innovation landscape highlighting strengths and areas needing improvement within each country and region profiled.

Clarivate Plc is a British-American provider of data, insights & analytics, workflow solutions and expert services in the areas of Academia & Government, Intellectual Property and Life Sciences & Healthcare.
