Association of the Republic of Korea to Horizon Europe formalised on 17/07/2025

"The Republic of Korea has officially become the first Asian country to associate with Horizon Europe", announces the European Commission on 17/07/2025. The Republic of Korea also contributes financially to the programme's budget.

The association negotiations concluded on 25/03/2024. Since 01/01/2025, Korean researchers have been eligible to apply and be evaluated as prospective beneficiaries in Horizon Europe proposals for all Pillar II "Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness" calls already included in the 2025 budget, thanks to a transitional arrangement.

"Korean researchers and organisations can now participate in several areas of the programme on equal terms with those for EU Member States", says the Commission. "They will be able to join and lead international research consortia, access funding and collaborate with leading research institutions across Europe and beyond to tackle global challenges".
