"Erasmus+ should support the core education mission of Universities Alliances" (Commission)

Erasmus + "should support the core education mission of the European Universities Alliances" and will receive support from other programmes, such as Horizon Europe, which should "reinforce links between universities and innovation ecosystems", and the European Competitiveness Fund, with the aim of "improving their delivery on innovation and the development of skills and talent", as indicated in various documents in the European Commission's proposal for the 2028-2034 European budget (MFF), presented on 16/07/2025.

The budget proposed for the Erasmus+ programme 2028-2034 is €40.8 Bn, a 55.73% increase compared to its predecessor (€26.2 Bn). The new programme incorporates the European Solidarity Corps and its actions.

Roxana Minzatu, Vice-President notably in charge of skills, states: "The fact that we have this larger budget sends a message that not only is it important for the identity and democracy of every European, but it’s also important for us to empower the next generation of Europeans to connect with the political project of the Union".
