Launch of Global Talent Ireland to "attract world-class researchers" (J. Lawless, Minister)

Ireland will launch Global Talent Ireland, a "bold new initiative to attract outstanding international research leaders to Irish Higher Education Institutions and public research bodies", announces James Lawless, Irish Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, on 17/07/2025.

Managed by Research Ireland on behalf of the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, the initiative will support the recruitment of both mid-career and established researchers.

It will also provide the resources needed to establish or relocate world-class research teams in Ireland, enabling them to carry out globally competitive research, and fund research across all disciplines within Research Ireland’s remit, with a focus on strategic areas of importance to Ireland.

Awarded for six years, the funding will go up to €1.5 M for research and €0.75 M for start-up (5-15 years post-PhD) or €2.5 M for research and €0.75 M€ for start-up (16+ years post-PhD).
