Malcolm Press, Vice-Chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University, is appointed as the new President of Universities UK, the British rectors' conference, announces the organisation on 01/08/2025.

"He brings a wealth of experience across research, policy, and higher education leadership, along with a strong belief in the power of universities in shaping a better future. He’s passionate about the role universities play in driving opportunity, innovation, and positive change, both in the UK and globally", declares Universities UK.

"We have a vital role to play in delivering on the vision and ambition of young people, secondly, ensuring people can thrive in workplace, that we deliver the skills pipeline that businesses and employers need, the third is around research and innovation, making sure we are absolutely central to the government's industrial strategy, and finally, we have a massive role to play in ensuring the UK can generate soft-power across the world and this can be used to translate into hard-power and tangible outcomes", says Malcolm Press.
