European Research Area Act : Call for evidence open until 10/09/2025

The European Commission launches a call for evidence for the upcoming European Research Area Act on 07/08/2025.

The ERA Act, introduced by the Commissioner for Start-ups and R&I, Ekaterina Zaharieva, during her hearing at the European Parliament on 05/11/2024, is a policy framework, expected to be adopted in the second half of 2026, to create a unified borderless market for research and innovation across the EU, with academic freedom at its heart.

The goal is to « address the remaining challenges in establishing a single market for researchers, knowledge, and technology — often referred to as the EU’s fifth Freedom », indicates the Commission.

It « will focus on harmonising R&D investments, reducing disparities, and aligning R&D policies across Member States. It will improve conditions for the circulation of knowledge, and for research and researchers, while safeguarding fundamental European research values like scientific freedom and gender equality ».
