Shanghai ranking 2025: Steady American podium led by Harvard, UK leading Europe followed by France

Harvard University tops the ranking list for the 23^rd year, followed by Stanford and MIT, all American universities, according to the Shanghai Ranking amid the publication of its annual ranking of world universities on 15/08/2025.

The American podium is followed by Cambridge (UK), Berkeley (U.S.), Oxford (UK), Princeton, Columbia, Caltech, and Chicago (U.S.).

"In Continental Europe, Paris-Saclay University (13^th) remains the best, followed by ETH Zurich (22^nd). Among Asian universities, Tsinghua University (18^th) rises four positions and once again secures its status as the best in Asia. The University of Melbourne (38^th) tops other universities in Oceania for fifteen consecutive years since 2011", declares Shanghai Ranking.

Chinese universities account for 222 universities ranked in the Top 1000, outnumbering the United States’ 183 universities. However, the U.S. maintains the lead at the Top 100 level, holding 37 seats, exceeding those of China (13) and the United Kingdom (8).
