2025 started with a major political change across the Atlantic: the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47^th President of the United States, for his second administration, on 20/01/2025. In a survey published on 11/10/2024, Higher education and research professionals across the world had expressed worries over his new political era, joined by international students, with 54% of them "believing elections would either significantly, moderately or slightly affect their study choices", according to Quacquarelli Symonds.

Once in the White House, Donald Trump's administration started with "slashed funding for scientific agencies, terminated grants to scientists, defunded laboratories, and hampered international scientific collaboration", according to a public statement made by 1,900 American scientists in March to "support science for the benefit of all citizens".
