Helmholtz association (Germany): Sabine Helling-Moegen appointed Managing Director

Sabine Helling-Moegen is appointed as the new Managing Director of the Helmholtz association, following a unanimous decision made by the Members’ Assembly during a special session on 15/08/2025, as announced by the German organisation on 16/08/2025.

She will assume the position on 01/11/2025. "Sabine Helling-Moegen has been serving as Administrative Director of the German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases, a research centre of the Helmholtz Association, since 2015. From 2021 to 2024, she also served on the Helmholtz Executive Committee as an Administrative Vice President and spokeswoman for the Administrative Directors of the Helmholtz association", says the organisation.

Sabine Helling-Moegen succeeds Franziska Broer, who held the position from 2016 to 2025 and became the Administrative Director of the University of Freiburg’s Medical Centre in May. Effrosyni Chelioti has served as Acting Managing Director since then and will go on to lead the Directorate-General on Policy Issues and Strategies at the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space.
