"Europe maximising scientific collaboration will solidify its global position" (The Guild)

The Guild "emphasise[s] that Europe’s endeavours towards being pre-eminent in science, grounded on the freedom of scientific research, must not be targeted at any specific country. If Europe seeks to maximise scientific collaboration and excellence, it will automatically solidify its own global position" in a position paper dedicated to the "resilience of Europe’s research systems against the growing attacks on science worldwide" published on 08/09/2025.

The association notes that "populism and anti-pluralist politics are eroding academic freedom worldwide, and in Europe, threats exist across many states. Funding cuts in Argentina and the U.S. have restricted research and undermined university autonomy, especially in diversity and environmental studies. These attacks have sparked debate in Europe on safeguarding academic freedom and scientific research, particularly to ensure talent attraction and retention".
