Increasing Europe-U.S. mobility partnerships to "bring the best minds together" (EAIE 2025)

"When the best minds are brought together from across borders, that's when real collaboration and real innovations happen", says Charles Hornstra, Regional Manager for EducationUSA in the Netherlands, on 10/09/2025. He is speaking during the EAIE annual conference, taking place from 09 to 12/09 in Gothenburg (Sweden).

While he highlights the capacity and attractiveness of the U.S to welcome international students, he sees that "European institutions also have world-class Stem programmes, excellent laboratories and research facilities".

If the competitiveness between European exchanges (through the Erasmus+ programme, for example) and overseas exchanges is strong, Charles Hornstra also wants to see the "tremendous potential for U.S and European stakeholders to collaborate".

He explains: "By 2030, the global youth population is projected to grow by approximately 7%. Given current higher education capacities, many countries may struggle to educate their own rising numbers of college-age students, let alone welcome international students."
