Horizon Europe proposal: "Integration of SSH across the whole programme must be supported" (EASSH)

"The principle of multidisciplinarity and integration of SSH across the whole programme (when relevant) must be supported, including the commitment to a regular monitoring of the scientific contribution of SSH disciplines", states EASSH, the European Alliance for Social Sciences and Humanities, in a position paper on FP10 published on 25/09/2025.

The European Commission presented its proposal for the EU budget for 2028-2034 on 16/07/2025, and, within it, the allocation of €175 Bn to Horizon Europe, the R&I framework programme. It is structured around four pillars, with the second one focused on research collaboration. This pillar is further divided into two policy windows: competitiveness and society.

EASSH emphasises that "the policy window called Society in Pillar 2 [€7.6 Bn out of the €75.9 Bn for the Pilar II] is dedicated to research on society and available funding must focus on research on societal challenges". The association proposes five priorities: democracy, education & skills, Europe in 2040, culture & knowledge, and productive and inclusive societies".
