EU and Latin American & Caribbean States' plans to deepen R&I cooperation

Representatives from the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) adopt a Ministerial Declaration and a New Agenda for Cooperation in Research and Innovation, announces the European Commission on 29/09/2025.

Both documents aim to deepen the EU-Celac cooperation in Research and Innovation, in particular in topics like health, climate change, environmental sustainability and energy transition. For example, the New Agenda for Cooperation sets out updated cooperation objectives and mechanisms for their implementation, along with a governance framework to ensure regular monitoring and political oversight.

"Work will start immediately with the launch of dedicated Working Groups on health, climate change, environmental sustainability and energy transition, and artificial intelligence in science", says the Commission.

Participation in these groups is voluntary for EU and Celac countries, and their role will be to draft 18-month action plans that turn the commitments into concrete measures. Both regions will jointly supervise the work of these groups and…
