Unesco: Khaled El-Enany nominated by the Executive Board to be Director-General

The Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation nominates Khaled El-Enany, an Egyptologist and Professor of Egyptology at Helwan University (Egypt), for the post of Director-General, announces the organisation on 06/10/2025.

This nomination will be put to a vote by all Unesco Member States on 06/11, during the Organisation's General Conference, to be held in Samarkand (Uzbekistan). Once elected by the General Conference, he will succeed Audrey Azoulay.

"He has served as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality, Director of the Open Learning Centre, and Head of the Tour Guide Department. He holds a PhD in Egyptology from Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3 University (France), where he has been a visiting Professor on several occasions", reports the Unesco.

Khaled El-Enany was also:
• Director of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation (2014-2016) and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo (2015-2016).
• Minister of Antiquities and then Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of the Arab Republic of Egypt (2016-2022).
