DG RTD: Momchil Sabev appointed Director of EISMEA

The European Commission appointed Momchil Sabev as Director of the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) on 16/10/2025. The date on which this will take effect is to be determined.

He replaces Stéphane Ouaki, who had been acting director since Jean-David Malo became acting director of ERA and innovation at DG RTD on 01/04/2025.

Momchil Sabev, from Bulgaria, joined the European Commission in 2010. He currently holds the position of Head of Unit for Budget and Financial Management at the DG Regio (Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy).

He previously served as Head of Unit for Tax Administration and the Fight Against Tax Fraud; Head of Unit for Interinstitutional Relations, Coordination, Communication, and Strategic Planning; and Head of Unit for Control of the Application of EU Legislation and State Aid in DG Taxud (Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union).
