Netherlands: Dutch Research Council gives grants to five journals to switch to diamond open access

Five scientific journals have received a grant from the NWO (Dutch Research Council) to switch from a subscription model. They will adopt the diamond open access model, a form of open access in which not only is the content freely available to readers, but authors also do not have to pay to publish their articles, announces the NWO on 07/10/2025.

The five journals receiving the grants and switching models are: Reviews of Economic Literature; Verpleegkunde; Tijdschrift voor Gezondheidszorg, (Bio)Ethiek & Filosofie; Tijdschrift voor Arbeidsvraagstukken; and Frame.

The Dutch Research Council gave a total of €187,000 in grants for this operation: "We are delighted that these five journals are taking the leap to change their publishing model to diamond open access. This grant covers the transition costs and gives them a significant boost", declares Hans de Jonge, Director of Open Science NL, part of NWO.
