EU-Africa: Launch of Core for Integrative Conservation Biology Research and Training (The Guild, Arua)

The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities and the African Research Universities Alliance (ARAU) are launching an Integrative Conservation Biology Research and Training initiative on 20/10/2025 as part of the Africa-Europe Clusters of Research Excellence (Core) scheme.

Core is an initiative launched in 2023 by the two research-intensive university associations. It gathers researchers from both continents to foster fair partnerships and advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals through research, education and innovation. The clusters are proposed by academics and selected for the quality of their 10-year plans aligned with AU-EU priorities.

This cluster will build undergraduate and postgraduate training in remote sensing, ecological modelling, R-programming and biodiversity digital twins. The goal is to strengthen local expertise and support Africa’s shift toward a digitally driven and environmentally resilient future by aligning biodiversity conservation with socioeconomic development.
