EU Council approves Switzerland rejoining Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe

The Council of the EU has given its green light to Switzerland to join Union programmes, such as Horizon Europe, Euratom Research and Training, Erasmus+, Iter/Fusion for Energy (F4E), Digital Europe and EU4Health. Following the adoption of this decision on 21/11/2025, the European Commission has been authorised to sign the agreement with the Swiss authorities, which is planned to take place in Bern on 10/10/2025. Then, the Council will request the consent of the European Parliament.

The Swiss Federal Council and the European Commission adopted final mandates for the negotiations on 08 and 12/03/2024 respectively. Then, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and the President of the Swiss Confederation, Viola Amherd, confirmed the completion of negotiations on 20/12/2024. The provisional application is expected to start on 01/01/2025, meaning that Swiss entities will be able to participate in calls from that date.
