U.S: Seven out of nine universities reject President Trump's "Compact" for federal funding

Seven out of nine U.S. universities to which the Trump administration sent its Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education have now rejected the document. Dartmouth College and the University of Virginia rejected the Compact on 18/10, and the University of Arizona did the same on 20/10.

The Compact provides federal funds to universities in exchange for agreeing to demands such as: applying only merit-based hiring and recruitment approaches; gender-segregation for bathrooms, locker rooms and sports based on reproductive and biological criteria; capping foreign enrollment at 15% of the student population and each foreign country at 5%; screening out students who demonstrate hostility to the United States, its allies, or its values; and sharing information with the Departments of State and Homeland Security on request.

MIT was the first institution to reject the document on 10/10, followed by Brown University on 15/10, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Southern California on 16/10/2025.
