European university alliances stress need for long-term funding under the MFF

Senior representatives of European University alliances speaking at the 2025 EAIE conference in Gothenburg, Sweden in September stressed their importance in the 2028-2034 Multiannual Financial Framework as well as the need for stronger, long-term funding beyond the Erasmus framework.

Natia Gamkrelidze, Secretary General of EUList alliance, told News Tank: "The MFF is crucial to shaping what alliances can do. It’s time to move beyond the project-based mindset and recognise alliances as essential pillars of the European Education and Research Area."

Reflecting on forthcoming negotiations between the EU co-legislators, Bruna Vives Prat, Secretary General of the Erua alliance, said that "decisions will not be taken only in Brussels, but also in national capitals. So we need to be active at that level too. Many people still don’t know about the alliances, so it’s important to show impact; not only numbers (joint degrees, mobilities) but also individual stories.
